Lava Next Door

Evacuated and displaced, I sip Starbucks in a quiet corner of Safeway, staring blankly at non-evacuees pushing food carts through the aisles. An older hippie couple asks about the ongoing eruption in my neighborhood – the constant changes, personal challenges. Suddenly the woman faces me directly and says, “You will lose your house, but your land will survive.” She was right!
